Remembrance Day Song

Found this song today. It is a touching song but conveys a great message.

5 weeks to go

It is only 5 weeks to go until end of term.

5 weeks until I move.
5 weeks until I go to Melbourne.
5 weeks until I leave my old school.
5 weeks until I leave my old apartment and move into a new one.
5 weeks until I start my new exercise routine.
5 weeks until I get to start a new.

I am so looking forward to all this. In the meantime I have 5 weeks to organise myself for my new move. I am getting closer to decluttering my teacher resources. It is taking time scanning all this stuff but it is so going to be worth it.

I then want to move onto my clothes and kitchen stuff. I have organised a bookcase full of CDs into 3 cd cases.

Indooroopilly haunted house

I came a across this on the Picture Australia website. I walked past this house last week thinking it was an interesting house.

An old disused house in the centre of Indooroopilly, looks much like a haunted house from classic movies.

Becoming clutter free

The next 10 weeks is all about becoming clutter free. At present I am scanning all my stuff I collected when I went to New Zealand in 1987. I have to say that paper makes up 90% of the clutter I have. Ahh...to be clutter free. :)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Oh Yeah (extended) - Yello - Yello

I totally love this movie. It has just been replayed on TV1 and everytime I hear the Oh Yeah song it reminds me of this fantastic movie.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 comedy film written and directed by John Hughes. It stars Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey. The film was released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986.

The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller from the North Shore, who, one spring day (after eight previous absences throughout the semester; nine total including this "day off"), decides to skip school again and spend the day in downtown Chicago with his girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye while creatively avoiding his school's dean of students Mr. Edward Rooney, his resentful sister Jeanie, and his parents. Bueller frequently breaks the fourth wall to explain to the audience his techniques and thoughts. In the opening scene, graphics appear onscreen illustrating his explanations

Remember the spin offs from this movie - Ferris Bueller and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

The Muppets

The Disney Channel had a muppet movie double play on tonight - The Muppet Movie and the Great Muppet Caper.

I love all things Muppet. While searching YouTube I found this little gem

The Muppets meet [Scrubs]

Favourite tv show themes

greatest american hero theme - christopher cross

Look at what’s happened to me,
I can’t believe it myself.
Suddenly I’m up on top of the world,
It should’ve been somebody else.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it’s just me.

It’s like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just me.

This is the theme to one of my favourite 80s shows. Love the man in the red suit!!

The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1971) - Theme

How will you make it on your own?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it’s you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You’re gonna make it after all (2X)

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you’re all alone
But it’s time you started living
It’s time you let someone else do some giving
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You might just make it after all.

Another of my favourite tv shows.

Remember

Remember the shop McDonnell and East? I used to love when I came to Brisbane and visited there.

Estate map for New Farm, Brisbane

New Farm Estate map for a land auction showing a plan of allotments to be sold on the 22nd October 1887 by James R. Dickson & Company, Auctioneers. The sale of land allotments covers the streets surrounded by Race Street, Russell Street and Wharf Street on the Brisbane River, Queensland.

Brunswick Street

Street scene showing the intersection of Brunswick Street and Wickham Street. There are buildings on both sides of the street and horsedrawn vehicles travelling through both streets. A Brisbane Tram is turning the corner and people are strolling in the streets. Small children are standing under the verandah of a shop ca 1905.

It would be interesting to calculate how many times I waited for a bus on Brunswick Street only to be frustrated and start to walk to my destination. Then three buses will pass me by or how many times I have walked up and down this iconic street.

I have walked up on hot days, cold days, windy days and rainy days. I have walked early, evening and late at night. Walked coming home from my Sizzler job or in the days when I went clubbing or 'playing' at the Den.

I have seen this street in all kinds of incarnations and times of day. Brunswick Street has changed and stayed the same. I remember walking home from my night fill job at Coles at midnight and the 'pros' saying hi and asking how was your night.

You see a lot of interesting people a you walk up and down this street. People going to work, people doing the one night stand walk of shame home, homeless people, students. The list goes on and on.

Retro

I am really an 80s child.

You're an eighties child if ...
You had a crush on one of the New Kids on the Block members.
You wanted to be on StarSearch.
You ever uttered the word "Radical!"
You wore jelly shoes and jelly bracelets
You thought "Ghostbusters" was by far the coolest movie
You remember watching shows like "Punky Brewster" , "Webster", "You Can't Do That On Television" , "Wild&Crazy Kids" and "Double Dare"
You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. Or even when he had those freaky eyes in "Thriller" at the end of the video.
You wore a banana clip in your hair or one of those slap on wrist bands at some point during your youth.
You rolled up the bottoms of your splatter painted jeans.
You wore loafers with everything, and you put the laces in those little rolls.
You had slouch socks, and puff painted your own shirt at least once.
You owned a doll with 'Xavier Roberts' signed on it's butt.
You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."
You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off."
You can name half of the members of the elite "Brat Pack."
You can remember watching Full House and Saved by the Bell for endless hours!
You have seen at least 10 episodes of Fraggle Rock.
You yearned to be a member of The Babysitters Club, and tried to start a club of your own.
You sat on your back porch, playing with your "My Little Pony" , "Rainbow Brite" , and "Strawberry Shortcake" dolls
You know that another name for a keyboard is a "Synthesizer."
You hold a special place in your heart for "Back to the Future."
You know where to go if you "wanna go where everybody knows your name."
You thought Molly Ringwald was REALLY cool.
You know what "sike" and "not!" mean
You fell victim to 80's fashion : big hair, crimped, combed over to the side, big hoop earrings, and possibly the worst:you wore spandex pants.
You wanted to be a Goonie, or Elliot from E.T.
You owned an extensive collection of Cabbage Patch Kids and trolls.
You knew "The Artist" when he was humbly called "Prince."
You actually saw Ted Danson as the MacDaddy he played "Sam" to be.
You ever wore flourescent -neon if you will clothing....
You could breakdance, or wished you could.
You know who He-Man and She-Ra are.
You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game system.
You know all the words to "Ice Ice Baby".
You remember MC hammer well.
You can still sing the rap to "Fresh Prince of Belair".
You own any cassettes.
You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living on the moon.
You remember and/or own any of the CareBear Glass collection from PizzaHut.
Pizza Hut was the coolest place to hang.
Poltergeist freaked you out.
You carried your lunch to school in a Gremlins or an E.T. lunchbox.
You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.
You wanted to communicate with some being named Cinergy, or you wanted green hair like that lead singer of the Misfits.
You totally LOVED Barbie's cooler, punkier counterpart, "Jem" and her "Rockers"
You wanted to have an alien like Alf living in your house.
You wore biker shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish.
You wore tights under shorts and felt stylish.
You layered your multi-colored slouch socks, and added suspenders to make your outfit complete.
You ever had a Swatch Watch.
You actually spent countless hours trying to perfect the care-bear stare.
You had a crush on one of the Coreys
You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
You had WonderWoman or Superman underwear.
You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween.
You believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power"
You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye.
Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You ever owned or wanted any of the NKOTB action figures or dolls.
You remember when Deborah Gibson was "Debbie" Gibson.

This season the celbs are:

Swimming

Summer 2008/2009 I am going to start swimming again. I really enjoyed doing it a few years ago but when I moved away it fell to the wayside. So, this summer I am dedicated to trying to go swimming at least 3 times a week.

So I will be off shopping to buy:

swimming chamios swimming shirt googles.

Kitchen Gadgets

I love cooking outside the box and here are a few things that I use in my kitchen.

Would love to have a body like this

This picture reminds me of the trees in New Farm Park

A dream

One of my biggest dreams is to own a little slice of New Farm. I have lived and rented in New Farm for so many years and I so love that suburb. One of the things I love is the accessability of New Farm.

While surfing through http://www.realestate.com.au/ I game across this little gem.

It is an art deco apartment which is so the type of apartment I would love to own.

The site describes it as

Have you been dreaming of living here? Start your New Farm home ownership at Clifton Court - one of Moray Street's most recognised Art Deco buildings. Within walking distance to Moray Cafe, Riverwalk, City Cat, Merthyr Village and New Farm Park, this 1 Bedroom apartment will sell quickly.

For years I have walked past Clifton Court. I even dated a guy who lived in this exact building. I really like that 1930s Art Deco feel of buildings like this. I am enchanted with buildings that have names. Is this fate calling?

Maybe I should just bit the bullet, apply for a home loan and see where that takes me.

I am so afraid of the rejection that may come with the applying of a home loan but the prospect of having to go back into the rental market is scary me too.

Hmmm...what to do?

Hmmm.....summer

It was very hot today.

I so hate summer.

I hate wearing shorts.

I hate sweating.

I hate sleeping in the heat.

I hate heat.

Did I say I hate summer. :)

Crockpot lasagna

Made lasagna in my crockpot today and just came home to enjoy and delicious meal.

It was so nice and the apartment smelt nice as I opened the door.

This will be one meal I will add to my menu.

Yummy. :)

The soundtrack of my life

I thought I might share my favourite radio station.

Radio station 4BH in Brisbane is my all time favourite station. It plays all the songs that you can sing along to. I just love listening to it in the morning while getting ready. It reminds me of when I was young and there was no morning television and all you had to listen to was the radio.

You can check it out at http://www.4bh.com.au/ and read about it here at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4BH

Check out the 4BH website for a great list of the top 1000 songs and see how many you know.

4BH is a popular easy listening radio station transmitting on the AM band. With the catchphrase ‘The Best Songs of All Time', 4BH plays a mix of easy listening hits from the last five decades.

Blogs I like

I have come across two blogs that I read each day.

They are:

http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

This is interesting to me as I have just recently bought myself a small crockpot in order to make meal time a lot less fussy. I really like the idea of coming home and finding a meal already cooked for you. It is like have your own personal chef. This blog is helping me along with my own crockpot journey.

The second blog I find interesting is...

http://unclutterer.com/

Lots of inspirational stuff on this site. I am on an uncluttering journey this year and this is helping me too. One of my biggest uncluttering tasks this year is to get rid of all my paper clutter. I have started my scanning all my teacher resources and hopefully what was three shelves of teacher resources will be contained to one memory stick.

Did you know that my favourite.....

Colour: Blue
Ride: Brisbane city cat
Food: Chilli con carne
Eat Out: Sitar in the Valley
CD: Whitney Houston
Book: To kill a mockingbird
Super Guilty Pleasure: Staying home on Sat night
Cool: Shaved heads
Broken Bones: Right arm
People Always Think I'm: Distant, rude.....
Indulgence: Afternoon naps
Junk Food: Pizza, Coca-Cola, Tim Tams

Welcome

Welcome to my first post on my new blog.

I aim to use this blog to record ramdom ramblings about my life and things I find interesting.

I hope that anyone reading it finds it interesting.

Enjoy my blog.
